This is a great way to incorporate walnuts into any meal!
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup Warm Water
- 1 tbs Active Dry Yeast
- 1/2 cup Honey
- 1/4 cup Walnut or Olive Oil
- 1 1/2 tsp Salt
- 6 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 2 cups Walnuts, toasted until light brown
Instructions
- Step 1
- Dissolve the yeast in the water. Add 1/2 cup of flour and let sit for 10 minutes to give the yeast a chance to get activated.
- Step 2
- Stir in the honey, oil, and salt.
- Step 3
- Add the flour, a cup at a time, until the dough has formed a shaggy mess.
- Step 4
- Turn the dough out on a lightly floured counter. Knead the dough, adding flour as necessary to form a smooth and satiny ball.
- Step 5
- Put the dough into a ball and drizzle with a tablespoon of oil. Turn the dough to coat with oil.
- Step 6
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or damp towel. Let the dough rise until it is puffy. About 1 1/2 hours.
- Step 7
- Gently deflate the dough and knead in walnuts.
- Step 8
- Divide the dough in half and form each half into a ball. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover the loaves with damp towel and let rise until swollen, about 30-45 minutes.
- Step 9
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Sprinkle flour on top of loaves and use a serrated knife to slash an ‘X’ on top of each. About 1 inch deep.
- Step 10
- Bake the loaves for 35-45 minutes, until they are browned and sound hollow when thumped. Their internal temperature will read 190 degrees.
- Step 11
- Put loaves on a rack and let cool for at least 20 minutes before cutting into them.
- Step 12
- Enjoy!!
